Dr. Mark L. Schoeller, M.D., M.P.H., chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, is the director of the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Mount Saint Vincent University Hospital.

Scholinger said the best way to optimize your thyroid function is to follow a diet that includes whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish and a variety of protein sources.

“If you eat foods that have low in protein, that are high in fiber, or low in carbs, it’s really important to eat whole foods that are nutrient dense,” he said.

“The body is made of many different proteins and fats and it can’t handle that much.

So you have to take in enough nutrients.”

The best way, said Scholiger, to achieve optimal thyroid function, is to get enough zinc, magnesium and potassium.

Zinc and magnesium are both important for your thyroid gland to work properly.

You can get a high zinc level by consuming lots of fruits and vegetables, as well as by consuming a good diet rich in vitamin D3.

“Magnesium is also important,” he explained.

“It is involved in regulating blood sugar levels and the hormone production.

If you get too much of it, your blood sugar will go up and it will cause your blood vessel walls to become clogged.

You’ll have a higher risk of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, arthritis and many other conditions.”

So the next time you’re feeling tired or fatigued, try to eat a variety and balance the nutritional requirements of each food.

“In terms of the diet, it is a great way to make sure that you’re getting enough zinc and magnesium,” Scholener said.

You might want to consider eating some beans, such as black beans, as part of your diet, because they are rich in magnesium.

They can also help lower your blood pressure.

He said if you are overweight, or have diabetes, you can also increase your magnesium levels by eating a variety in your diet.

“So there’s lots of things you can do to help your thyroid to function better,” he added.

“For example, you could add some protein to your diet.”

But if you can’t get enough protein, you might want a low-carb diet, which includes lean meat, fish, poultry, beans and a balanced diet.

You could also try to add some calcium and other minerals, Scholenger said.
